Quickstart

Check in to a room in under two minutes. Do it on the website, or from a terminal with the dothotel CLI.

Before you start

  • For the website: nothing. Browsing, reading and downloading rooms doesn't need an account.
  • For the CLI: Node.js 20 or newer. npx ships with Node.
  • To use the room: a Dot at chatgpt.com/dots, Codex, or the ChatGPT desktop app, depending on the format you pick.

Option A: from the website

  1. Open Rooms and pick one. The door lists what the room reads, drafts and does.
  2. Click Check in and choose a format:
    • Paste into your Dot: copies one block of text. Works with any Dot, no install needed.
    • Skill: downloads SKILL.md for Codex.
    • Plugin bundle: downloads a zip for the ChatGPT desktop app.
  3. Follow the steps shown for that format. Export formats covers each one in detail.

Option B: from the terminal

Find a room:

Shell
npx dothotel search inbox

Read the door before installing. This shows the key card, apps and every Custom Rule:

Shell
npx dothotel info sunday-digest

Install it as a skill in the current project:

Shell
npx dothotel add sunday-digest
Text
✓ Checked in to Sunday Inbox Digest → ./.agents/skills/dot-hotel-sunday-digest

Codex picks up skills in .agents/skills automatically; restart it if the skill doesn't show. To install for every project instead, add -g, which writes to ~/.agents/skills.

Paste instead of installing

Every room also works as plain text. Print it and copy it into your Dot as its task:

Shell
npx dothotel paste 102 | pbcopy # macOS
npx dothotel paste 102 | clip # Windows
