Dot Hotel docs

Everything you need to find, understand, use and publish rooms: ready-made setups for your OpenAI Dot.

What is Dot Hotel?

A Dot can work across your email, calendar, code and other apps. Setting one up well takes care: clear instructions, the right apps connected, and Custom Rules that keep it from doing anything you didn't intend.

Dot Hotel is a directory of those setups, called rooms, that people share. Each room includes:

PartWhat it is
InstructionsThe job, written as a task your Dot follows
AppsThe apps the room expects you to connect, like Gmail or Linear
Access listWhat the room reads, what it drafts, and what it actually does
Custom RulesWhat it may do on its own, what needs your approval, and what it must never do
GuardrailsPlain-language promises about its behavior
Key cardIts risk level at a glance: Lobby pass, Floor key or Master key

Why rooms?

  • Start from something that works. Use a setup someone has already tested instead of writing one from scratch.
  • Know what you're handing over. Every room lists its permissions on the door before you check in.
  • Safety is part of the setup. Rules ship with the room, in exactly the shape Dots use, so you can copy them straight across.
  • Get updates. When the author improves a room, you can pick up the new version.

From an author's draft to your Dot. A room opens once it passes the automatic checks; the front desk reviews it after that.
  1. An author opens a room. They write the instructions, choose the apps, list the access it needs, and set its Custom Rules.
  2. Automatic checks run. A room can't be published with hidden characters, a missing Block rule, or a key card that doesn't match what it does. See Safety & review.
  3. The room goes live. It appears in the directory with a room number, like 101.
  4. The front desk reviews it. Rooms that pass get a Reviewed stamp. Rooms that break the house rules are taken down.
  5. You check in. Paste the room into your Dot, or install it as a skill or plugin. See Checking in.
